Duffy Role Model Assembly

Today we had our Duffy Role Model Assembly. Nathan Gray came to tell us all about his adventures around the world and how reading and writing helped him on his journey. When we got back to Pohutukawa we got our brand new Duffy books! Now we have lots of amazing stories to read at home with our families.

Cross country

What a great turn out and weather for our annual cross country run. We all dressed in our house colours and the teachers were very proud of the amazing efforts of the Pohutukawa kids with their running.

Our Favourite action Station

For the last three weeks we have had a Teachers Action Station. We have been teaching each other letters and numbers and shapes and colours. We have been learning words together and reading books together. We like being teachers with our friends in Pohutukawa.

Popcorn!

Every Friday in Pohutukawa we do a writing experience based on one of our letters of the week. This week we made delicious popcorn for the letter p! Today we were focusing on using our senses to think about what the popcorn tasted like, smelt like, sounded like, looked like and felt like. It was a very scrumptious morning!

"The popcorn was noisy when it popped!" – Hannaneh
"The popcorn tasted so yummy!" – Ethan
"The popcorn was soft." – Riley
"The popcorn smelt really yummy!" - Jordyn

2D and 3D Shapes

For the last two weeks Pohutukawa have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes. We have talked about what the shapes are called, what they look like and how many sides and corners they have.

“We learnt about cones and cubes and cylinders and spheres.” – Alister
“I learnt how many sides the shapes have.” – Rarika
“Squares have four sides. Circles go around. Diamonds have four sides." – Vern
“We learnt about squares, hexagons, pentagons, triangles, diamonds, rectangles and ovals." – Andrea
“We made patterns with shapes." – Mya

We have made some 3D shapes using nets, as well as lots of cool artwork using 2D shapes. Here are some of our creations!
